  • Brutal Tooltip: The Ultimate Inline Text Popover for Gutenberg

Sometimes you need to explain a complex term, add a quick definition, or provide extra context without cluttering your beautiful page layout. The Brutal Tooltip is the perfect solution.

Unlike clunky plugins that force you to use entirely separate blocks just to add a tooltip, we built ours as a native Text Format. This means it works seamlessly inside your existing paragraphs, headings, or lists. Just highlight a word, click the button, and add your popover text. It is insanely fast, intuitive, and keeps your WordPress workflow completely uninterrupted.

DEMO: hover the words with dotted underline.

    🔥 What makes it brutal?

    • Native Inline Format: No new blocks required. It lives right inside your standard Gutenberg text toolbar, exactly where you need it.
    • Smart Positioning: Total directional control. Choose exactly where the tooltip appears when hovered: Top, Bottom, Left, or Right.
    • Premium Theming: Ensure your popovers match your website’s vibe perfectly. Choose between a clean Light theme, a sleek Dark theme, or the “Brand” theme that automatically inherits your site’s primary accent color.
    • Zero-Bloat Performance: Like all Brutal tools, these tooltips are fiercely lightweight and won’t drag down your page loading times.

    💸 FREE vs. PRO

The Free version is a handy tool for basic definitions, but to get your tooltips looking exactly how you want them, you need the design controls of the PRO version.

    • FREE Version: Gives you the core functionality to add tooltips instantly. However, you are locked to the Top position and the Light theme.
    • PRO Version (Unleash the Beast): Total design control.
      • Unlock All Positions: Force the tooltip to appear on the Bottom, Left, or Right of the word to prevent it from covering important content above it.
      • Unlock All Themes: Gain access to the sleek Dark theme and the dynamic Brand color theme to make your tooltips visually pop and perfectly match your site’s design.

🛠️ Quick Help: Up and running in seconds

Remember, this is a Format, not a Block! Here is how to use it:

    1. Type a normal paragraph or heading in the Gutenberg editor.
    2. Use your mouse to highlight the specific word or phrase you want to add a tooltip to.
    3. Look at the text toolbar that pops up above your text. Click the Brutal Tooltip icon (or look inside the dropdown arrow if your toolbar is crowded).
    4. A small popover menu will appear. Type your tooltip explanation in the text field.
    5. Free users: Hit Enter, save your page, and you are done.
    6. PRO users: Use the options right inside the popover to change the Theme (Light, Dark, Brand) and adjust the Position (Top, Bottom, Left, Right).
